Scully's art is rooted in American abstraction and his 'elemental forms', as he calls them, have a rigour and purity that have made him one of the leading abstract artists working today.
In the last twenty years, Scully has delved deeper into the print media, in woodcut and, more recently, in aquatint. His imagery maintains its strength and formality, but the ability to overlay colours adds an ethereal beauty to his imagery.
